Solid State Relay Upgrade

If your Lufran^® water heater was purchased prior to 1998, you may have mercury relays.  SSR replacements are now available.

ENGINEERING SPECIFICATIONS

• Solid State Relay (SSR): Standard mercury power relays can now be upgraded to long life solid state relays. The SSR upgrade eliminates the 12 month preventative maintenance replacement of mercury relays.
• Why: Although extremely durable, a mercury relay is still a mechanical device. Periodically, mercury relays need replacement. Over time, the operating cycle of a mercury relay can even fail. Upgrading to a solid state relay eliminates cycle life limit.
• Module Replacement: SSRs are mounted on a module board with cooling fans already installed. The SSR module is the same size as the mercury relay module.
• Electrical: 208 vac thru 480 VAC, 3 phase, 50/60 Hz.
• CE Listed: Solid state relays are thermally protected and CE listed.

QUICK INSTALLATION

 

1. Lock out power to unit.
2. Disconnect leads.
3. Unbolt mercury module.
4. Install solid state module.
5. Connect leads.
6. Restore power.

WARNING

Always follow tag out/lock out procedures before beginning any work. Follow all safety procedures.

INSTALLATION SERVICE

A Process Technology/Lufran^® technician can install the upgrade and perform a temperature controller cycle upgrade as well. The controller upgrade will fast cycle the SSR and improve temperature control. While he is there, the Process Technology/Lufran^® technician can also perform a system audit or perform other regular PM. Please call Process Technology/Lufran^® for a service and parts proposal.
